Speak Cornish Week
Seythen Kows Kernewek
Held each year in June, Speak Cornish week focuses on celebrating our language and encouraging everyone to use some Cornish over the week. From events for speakers to taster sessions and fun games for non-speakers, digital challenges, music and talks, there is something for everyone. Post up your own memes, videos, photos and more to any social media platform using #speakcornish and check out the programme to see what is happening this year!
Speak Cornish Week 2021: 19th - 27th June
The theme this year is meur ras (thanks). As we emerge from lockdown and a tough year for all we thought it was appropriate to help people express what they are thankful for right now, be that the NHS, their family and friends, Cornwall or whatever is important to them!
Challenge #1: We know there are Cornish speakers around the world, so for Speak Cornish week we are trying to see how many messages we can get from different countries around the world. We'll be saying Dydh da bys on Twitter and hoping to get #DydhdaKernow tweets from all over the world. Just send a tweet with the massage yth esov vy yn... and the place you are in, or a variation on that phrase, with a picture or video of where you are and the hashtag #DydhdaKernow. We'll be tweeting daily with a map of where we have heard from! Let's take Cornish Global!
Challenge #2: Cornish Tiktok! Try your hand at Tiktok in Cornish - come up with some brand new ideas using Cornish. From our first 10-second film challenge onwards, we've had a brilliant reponse each year to the digital challenge, so let's make 2021 really special!
Please note one change to the programme below: the Carbis Bay Walk and Talk has been cancelled due to the number of coronavirus cases in the area.
